I'm with you, Make Me Run...
I live pretty simply. I didn't even own a car when I lived in DC and when I moved here, researched the most commonly owned car in this state and bought a 10-year-old version of that (in nice shape) so I wouldn't even be perceived as one of those people who flash around their possessions, like cars. I do admit to having a ice stereo. And I buy more vinyl than I should, and shoes. But I'm not impressed by anyone who tries to signal their value through how expensive their car is.
So, did you ever talk to your ex again, after she bragged about her car and then never showed up? I hear you re: Facebook. I'm mostly on it because in my work I'm involved with designing social media experiences, and I have to know how people use it, why they dig it, what they can do, where there are shortcomings, to design new and better experiences. I've gotten contacted by a few people from the past I'm not so interested in being in contact with so I just delete their "friend" invitations. But it can be weird to see some people pop up. And sometimes it's cool, or nostalgic or funky, or fun.
For some reason that story sounds like a music video or a song -- do you write songs, I forget? pretty sure you do and that I've heard them but it's late. But that car-baiting story sounds like a song. From what I've gleaned about you over the years doesn't sound like someone you *would* want to be with :)
