A 500 page tome with one dimensional characters, and videogame rights sounds like the kind of MASSIVE success I'll be completely ignorant of. He sounds like a bit of an artiste to me. I hope his characters don't come to life and cause him harm.
I don't really know anyone famous. I know some people that did okay in bands or in promotion and a few writers that write stuff for magazines or the crap I'm interested in. No one that's ever done anything MASSIVE, and they don't seem to care because they do what makes them happy.
Your ex reminds me of a line from a Dexateens song that I thought was well put:
What you need is somebody to love you
What you got is somebody to touch
Till you find yourself alone and happy
It ain't ever gonna add up to much
It sounds to me like you can handle the alone and happy part. It seems like that's out of his grasp to me.
