He tried to get me to take up the drums. While he was taking drumming lessons, he was given an instructional video tape about playing drums. It was by --- Jethro Tull's longtime drummer Doane Perry. He loaned it to me. What a very pleasant personality Perry had. Nice guy and nice tape.
Bigelow saved three kids from a fire in 2000, which started by the kids playing with firecrackers. Written news reports have some variations of the exact details, but this Bam Bam interview seems to contradict them. But I think Bigelow was, to some extent, downplaying the seriousness of what he did.
Bigelow passed away in 2007, only 45! An autopsy report showed he had all sorts of prescription drugs in his system, as he had multiple health issues, plus he had toxic levels of cocaine.
Several other wrestlers, including the greatest ones, lost their lives way too young. Really sad and tragic stuff. Several years ago we had a thread going here about Chris Benoit killing his wife & kids while they were sleeping, and then he took his own life.
