RE: RE: Tull, Iommi & Circus

Interesting stuff! I thought Iommi was temporary emergency fill-in because he was in the group Earth, which would become Black Sabbath. Abrahams of course went on to form the group Blodwyn Pig, releasing two very impressive albums.

I had a friend who was a Tull fanatic, and I mean this guy ate, slept, and breathed Jethro Tull. He loved Tull as much as I love the Stones!

Anyway, he was a few years older than me, and when he was in the army in 1970 (never stationed in VietNam) he somehow followed Jethro Tull around in Europe. How do you do that. He would have 3rd row center in each show he was at, and Ian Anderson did indeed see that he was at other shows because of the surprised face I.A. contorted when he saw my friend yet again seated up front.

You see, my friend was quite easily distinguishable because he was quite tall and looked like nobody else. This is what he looked like. Picture that guy with hair and that was my friend. Except for the hair, they looked like twins. How can anybody forget a face like that?? I bet Anderson must have said to himself, "wtf?" when he gave that look cause he saw that same big guy at several shows and seated around the same area. 😱 Wow!

That guy pictured btw was pro wrestling superstar Bam Bam Bigelow, who started wrestling in the 1980s.

True story. My friend lived in Holtsville, and up his block lived an older neighbor who would come up to him and swear he was Bam Bam Bigelow. My poor friend never watched wrestling and didn't know what the guy was talking about! But the neighbor would come around and try to get my friend to admit he was indeed BBB. "No that's not me, I swear" to no avail.

The friend took his own life 17 years ago by crashing his car into a pole at high speed, (right near my house.) His wife had succumbed to breast cancer one year earlier, and we thought he was finally starting to come around, but we were wrong. The poor guy couldn't take it anymore.

We had spent many many hours over time talking music and sharing albums and CDs. Because of me he got heavily into Irish/Celtic music. But we were huge fans of progressive rock, obscure and little known stuff, and the Blues.

We learned a lot from each other.

He loved the drums and started drum lessons in the later 90s. At the school, GINGER BAKER stopped by (he knew the teacher) and my friend got to talk with him a while. During the rap, GB told him that HE was supposed to be the drummer for The Rolling Stones, -- that was the first time I heard that.

These days I really don't have a music buddy anymore, but he was the best one I had.
