First I will say your point is absolutely a fact. Humans have always wanted to fill in the blanks when it comes to something that they don't understand and have no absolute educated unbiased fact.
I have always thought that if the human race started today as we are today, very little of any religion would happen. Of course there would be a difference between well educated societies and others.
My mantra as I have grown is to keep the emotion out as much as possible and use wisdom I have attained and a shitload of common sense. Until something is proven, scientifically or otherwise, with a ton of corroborated evidence, it is not a fact at this moment in time. Religion, conspiracy theories, whatever, the list is infinite.
