As I noted last week when pluto spoke about my rating scale - a page I hadn't looked at in years - and a page I wrote up back in 1998.... when it came to what I had written down next to each album rating, I feel that it needed to be updated now, some 20 years later. So I just did that thanks to pluto, but no, it changes nothing on what the 2 of us have been debating here, nor where my line is drawn, either.... A difference of 0.01 can still show a major difference. But yes, I did take the edge off some of that a bit, so where a 6.4 is still average, a 6.5 is now "average to good". So did I just give in a bit to him there? Yes and no would be my answer, since no, 0.1 still makes a difference if a LP gets a passing grade or not, but yes, for 'average' to 'good' a slight change has been made in the wording.
Only a few things in the middle of the chart were worded differently along with the old grading scale (A to D along with F) added in just for the hell of it.
So I'll just note it all here too... First, the song rating chart hasn't been changed at all and remains as it always has been.... But, here is what is now worded next to each rating for the album chart only, since it reflects my point of view better for today (and I'll include here what it used to say so you can see the difference now, which again, isn't that big at all..... For ratings that fall between 8 and 10: No change made at all; 7.4 to 7.9 - read "GREAT & CLASSIC", now that reads "VERY GOOD" (as my feelings today don't come close to feeling that a LP rated a 7.4 is close to being a classic, but it is still very good); 7 to 7.3 went from "VERY GOOD" to now just "GOOD"; 6.5 to 6.9 from "AVERAGE" to now "AVERAGE TO GOOD"; and everything else on the chart stays the same - other than the very last bit noted for "UNDER 2.0" has been dropped, since it wasn't needed, as everything rated under 4 really covers that - and in 20 years I never once rated an LP under a 4 anyway. If an LP is that bad, and some are - well I got better things to waste my time on than rating crap like that.
Anyway, I like this new wording better, yet deep down it changes noting as far as to where I draw my line in the sand, either.
