While The Rolling Stones are, for me, the greatest Rock n' Roll band of all time, I have often wished that their production quality was better than it actually was. I don't compare the sonic quality of great Rock records to bands like Steely Dan or Dire Straits who are fantastic in this area. But I have often thought that Stones records could have been better. Physical Graffiti is pretty good in this regard, and yes, its glorious when cranked on a good system.
Let me be clear, I am speaking only of audio production here. I am actually not a fan of Steely Dan, though they always mentioned among audiophiles and are used to test systems in stereo stores. Along with Dire Straits, they seem to be the most often used recordings of their genre for this purpose.
