RE: Don't worry, be happy (nsc)

India? No, not a place I would ever want to visit. Yet several of my friends here in town go there often, as folks really big time into Hinduism end up there and we got a lot of such people living here (second biggest religion here in my hometown after Buddhism). One very close female friend of mine goes there every winter, and the family next door lived there for 2 years, but now the mom and daughter are still living there while the son and dad are back here since last winter. Plus we got a bunch of folks who are from there living here, too. Very kind people from India, yet it doesn't sound like a spot I would ever want to be at (just too many people, and bad weather, too), then again, I'm not Hindu, either.

It's been a weird summer here, on the hot side with little rain. Still compared to the rest of the country, it isn't ever as bad here as to what most folks in the States have to live with - high humidity and heat. Yet most of you (meaning people in general) love the heat in the summer, right? That's what most folks live for it seems. It's in the winter when most people bitch more. Yet winter is my favorite time of the year, other than last winter totally sucked here, we got about as little snow as places like St Louis, MO or Wichita, Kansas usually sees, while it was still on the cold side.

But when it's hot and in the lower 90s here, I can only dream of the winter ahead and hope that it gets here as soon as possible. Yet when you get older, you aren't supposed to think that way at all, since the faster time passes by, the less time you got left overall... I was at the doctor the other day and was talking to the nurse, I told her I no longer worry about preparing and eating bad foods for myself, just as long as I still cook good healthy foods for my grandson (and I do that for him). But they say if you don't watch what you eat, in 20 years time you can develop either cancer or maybe a bad heart that will kill you at that time. But I'm in my mid 60s, if I live as long as the average male person, then I don't have 20 years left anyway, and if I don't start to enjoy some foods now that I avoided years ago, I'll never get to enjoy them. What's the use in living an extra five years or so while never enjoying what you eat? I understand eating healthy is the way to go up until you're around 60, and I did live my life in that way once I got past my mid 20s or so, but no longer will I do that today. Now it's time to enjoy some homemade deep fried chicken, along with some greasy French Fries, and some pastries, cookies and cakes for dessert (usually homemade by myself). Hell, I was reading the other day how bad ice cream is for your body. But how the hell do you get thru the summer without ice cream?

So where I used to avoid eating a lot of crap like what I just noted above, most of the time, about a year ago I started to no longer care. Yet another interesting thing on the other side of the coin, is unlike just a few years ago, my appetite is no longer what it used to be. As I've aged, I eat less food now than I used to eat at one sitting, even if I don't care anymore. So that must even some things out, too.

But I read once that you should live 5 years longer than what your parents lived (after you combine the 2 ages they lived to and divide that by 2 - and only if they died of natural causes). So my parents average age was 90. But I just can't see me living to being 95, no way! I'll be happy to see 80 - and that will still be a couple of years longer than the average man lives! The bottom line is, don't worry about it, just enjoy your old age and when the old ticker stops, well then, that's it. Afterall, 100% of us end up dead in the end, and nobody can stop it from happening, so why worry about it when you get old? I refuse to! So pass me a piece of the pie, Ronnie!
