I don't think and I can ever recall seeing such a bottleneck happening at any of our polls before like what is happening at the main Rock poll so far this week!
First, Dylan is doing great at this poll and it already looks like 2 of his songs and opening lyrics (Highway 61 Revisited and Subterranean Homesick Blues) will run away with the win, only question now is which song of the 2 will it be?.... as the 2 songs are only vote apart at the moment.
But the reason for this reply post's title, is that not only is there our few normal ties in a few spots this week for this poll, but since the poll got going, there has been a major bottleneck of votes for what is now going to be the last spot in the Top 10 finish for this poll. At the moment that's going to be 7th place, where right now there's 12 songs tied for 7th place!! Yes, a 12 way tie, and in 19 years of running these weekly polls, I've never seen anything even close to that.
As I have noted before, I dislike ties (especially for first place), but they always been a normal part of our polls and they happen, but never like this have they happen. I want to say that maybe a 6 or 7 way tie in the past has happened before, but truth is, I really can't remember any ties larger than about a 4 or 5 way tie before.
Now it's only early Thursday morning, so there's still 4 full days to go in the voting... in other words, we are only half way through this poll week, but, as most of you who live in the U.S. knows, the third biggest holiday weekend of the year and second biggest holiday of the summer is this weekend, and that will mean less voters showing up this weekend (or it at least should mean that). The fact this large tie took shape on Monday and has't gone away yet means it just might stick around till the end of polling, so let's see if we can get a bunch of new voters in on this and at the least try to break this jam in half.
So if you haven't voted yet in this poll, please do, here are the 12 songs that are tied for 7th as I type this out: Baba O`Riley (Who), All Along The Watchtower (Dylan/Hendrix), America (Simon&Garfunkel), Aqualung (J. Tull), Diamond Dogs (Bowie), Imagine (Lennon), Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (Fabs), Midnight Special (CCR/others), Rebel Rebel (Bowie), Still Crazy After all these Years (Simon), The Sound of Silence (Simon&Garfunkel), Werewolves of London (Zevon).
So again, if you haven't voted yet, please do so! I know a lot of you Gassers only vote in the 2 Stones polls each week, and it's interesting that the Stones, who have a bunch of songs in this poll this week, aren't involved in this giant tie at all, but if you can take 30 seconds and vote if only to help break up this crazy tie, that would be great.... and thanks to all of those who already voted in this poll! A lack of votes isn't the problem here, it's just this 12 way tie that is.
