Blue and Lonesome/LIB/TY/best opening lyrics/more

It’s time to talk about our 5 new weekly polls that will be running this week on the domain. As usual, we’ll start off looking at the Stones poll first, which enters week 930, and as always is the case, we will have 2 different Stones polls running in one week. The first poll will once again be looking at the Stones latest album, Blue and Lonesome, which was released last December. So the first poll’s question will ask this: On a scale from zero to ten, how do you rate the album, Blue and Lonesome?

Week 2 of looking at the still new LP, and this time we will rate it. The usual ratings apply, zero is the lowest rating while a 10 is tops. To cast your vote in this first Stones poll question, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

For the second Stones poll, we run the Stones album VS matchups, and each week we bring back an older series from this poll to do battle once again, so this week the question is: Let It Bleed vs Tattoo You, which album do you like the best?

vs

Yes, the Bleed Polls return to our Stones VS album series, featuring the 1969 LP Let It Bleed. LIB sits in second place in the standings with an 11-1 record. Its only loss was to the first place LP, SF. This time it goes up against the 1980 release of mostly 1970s recorded songs, Tattoo You. TY has a record of 6-4-1, good for 12th place in the standings.

To see the song list for each album, for Let It Bleed, click on: LIB, and for Tattoo You, click here: TY.

To cast your vote in this second Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

At the Stones two polls last week, the first one asked this: What Is Your Favorite Song On The Stones' Blue and Lonesome Album?

So last week, and for the first time ever at our polls, we looked at this album. With all the votes the poll question received, I can see that this new album is now well known to most fans. The song that was picked as the most liked is the song that’s also my favorite, too, that being “Everybody Knows about My Good Thing”, seeing 11.4% of the vote. To see the full final poll results from this question, just click here:Stones Weekly Poll - week 929, poll 1. Plus, you can also check out a list of all the favorite songs picked by fans for all of the other Stones studio LPs by going here: Stones Fans Top Pick Lists - Page 1

Looking back at last week’s second Stones poll, the question was: Sticky Fingers vs Emotional Rescue, which album do you like the best?

vs

This one wasn’t close at all, as the well-loved Sticky Fingers LP stayed undefeated. To see by how much it came out on top, just click on here:Stones Weekly Poll - week 929, poll 2. Plus, I’ll add the results from this poll to the standings at the Stones VS Page 1, where at the top of the page you can check out the updated standings on how each album has done in these long running VS polls.

At the Classic Rock Poll, we enter week 570, and just like as we do at the Stones poll, we run 2 poll questions a week at this one too. The first poll’s question will ask this: What's the best opening lyrics to a song? (Part 5 of 5)

The final round of this question is here at last. We have 32 songs along with their opening lyrics to choose from after 8 songs made it to the final round last week. All of the songs and lyrics that we will pick from are good ones indeed! Dylan had the most songs/lyrics chosen, with 6, The Stones 5, Lennon has 4, including 3 he wrote for the Beatles, Paul Simon has 3, including 2 he did with Garfunkel, Bowie also has 3 listed, and Warren Zevon, and the Who, have 2 each. Then Van Morrison, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Patti Smith, Jethro Tull, Queen, Steve Miller Band, and Creedence Clearwater Revival all have 1 song each that also made the final list. Just remember when you vote, don’t pick your favorite song listed; what we are looking for is the best opening lyrics from them only!

Now, as I noted before, I had to compile all the songs that will be used along with their opening lyrics on a separate page, outside of the voting booth, since the poll's admin only takes so many characters in the poll option field, and therefore there wasn’t enough room to show the lyrics there. So since the lyrics are too long to fit into the said field, I had to list the lyrics on a separate page, and that's the only place where you will be able to view them. So as was the case in the first 4 parts, the lyrics won't be shown in the poll where you vote, instead, only the song and the artist who recorded it will be shown there. When you vote you can either try to remember the exact opening lyric, or you can read the actual opening lyrics on the special page that I placed them on and which will be linked to at the poll. All of this week’s songs will be grouped together on that page under “Part 5”. To see all of these opening lyrics that you will choose from in this final week of polling, again, the link will be in the voting booth, and I'll also directly linked to it right :here.

To vote in this poll, just click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

At the second Rock poll this week, known better as the Rock VS poll, we ask this question: 'Country Comfort': Original by Elton John vs the cover by Rod Stewart, which version is better?

"Country Comfort" was written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin and released as a single from the album Tumbleweed Connection in October of 1970. Yet something that we rarely ever see in music took place with this wonderful country rock song, that is, Rod Stewart's cover of the song was actually released first, a full 4 months sooner, in June of 1970, on his second solo LP, Gasoline Alley. The difference between the 2 versions are that Stewart's cover sounds like a rock ballad and doesn't have the country rock feel than the EJ take has. Elton and Rod did performed the song live together once, at a fund-raising gig in the UK way back on May 5, 1974.

As usual, links to the 2 songs are in the voting booth for you to listen to, if you would like to hear the songs before you vote. But just remember, we aren't rating the videos for this poll question, not at all. They are only there so you can hear the songs before you vote.

So which song will you go with? To make your pick, just click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll, we asked: What's the best opening lyrics to a song? (Part 4 of 5)

Thanks to a 3 way tie for the last spot, 9 songs ended up in the top 7. Those songs are: Subterranean Homesick Blues - Bob Dylan (5.9%). America - Simon & Garfunkel (5.4%), Imagine - John Lennon (5.3%), The Joker - Steve Miller Band (5.3%), All Along The Watchtower - Bob Dylan/Jimi Hendrix (5.3%), Monkey Man - The Rolling Stones (5.3%), Midnight Special - Creedence Clearwater Revival/Many others (5.2%), Won’t Get Fooled Again - The Who (5.2%), and Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie (5.2%)..

You can view the full, final results from this poll, by clicking here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 569

In last week’s VS Rock poll, we asked: 'I Shot the Sheriff': Original by Bob Marley vs the cover by Eric Clapton, which version is better? Close voting in this one. To see which song came put on top, just click here: Rock Poll 2, week 569 You can also check out the final results at the VS Classic poll results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, by clicking here: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

Time to close out this poll post as usual with the Beatles poll, where it’s week 323, and this week’s question is: The White Album (aka The Beatles) vs Please Please Me, which album do you like the best?

vs

Week 9 and the final round of the White polls, featuring The White Album, and this time the double LP takes on the Beatles very first album, Please Please Me, released in the UK on March 22, 1963. Yes, this was the Beatles album that started it all! It has a 1-2 record so far in this series, while The White Album is now at 9-3.

To see the song list for each album, for The White Album, click on: TWA, and for Please Please Me, click here: PPM.

To vote in this poll, go here: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week's Beatles poll we answered this question: The White Album (aka The Beatles) vs With the Beatles, which album do you like the best?

vs

The final result in this one was somewhat close, but we did see a clear enough winner, too. You can check out which LP won, here: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 322. Plus, check out the series standings here: Beatle albums vs Beatle albums.

Well that does it for yet another week’s poll post! Gosh the weeks just still seem to go by way too fast. I was thinking, or at least hoping, that once I was officially retired, that everything in life just might slow down a little, but that hasn’t been the case at all and once again I had a way too busy week. Guess at this rate time will never again slow down, and that’s not a great thing when you get older, but it’s just the way life is.

I hope that all of you have a great upcoming week and that it doesn’t race by too fast!
