RE: power strips

After this happened, I was so sure that one outlet dying on a power strip couldn't happen, that I did a Google search on this to find out if that was true or not.... and to my surprise, it can happen, but it depends on the power strip and how it's wired and put together. My old strip is an expensive one, with the best surge protection you can get, so more than likely I figured that was the case with mine after all, and that one outlet went bad. But what I've also known for a long time, is no matter how good your surge protection is, in time after several power surges hits, your protection is gone for good. I have a friend who changes her's once a year, and after reading up on this, most do need replacing after about 2 years... the power strip will still work for years on end, but after time passes by, they no longer protect your equipment from power surges and are just, well, power strips and nothing more. Knowing how bad things are where I live with our local power company, I'm been in need of a new power strip for a few years now, and will get a new one real soon.... but....

Tonight my son-in-law dropped by and when I told him what happened with the receiver working again, he insisted one outlet on a strip couldn't go out like that, and it had to be something else. Well after reading up on this I know now for a fact that it can happen, again depending on what kind of strip is being used. So I decided to show him by plugging in an old clock to the one bad outlet on the strip in question. So what happened? The clock turned on! The damn outlet is working after all! Is this just another resurrection performed by your favorite atheist??

So tonight I'm totally confused as to what happened! Of course my straight grandson commented to me that maybe I needed to just stop smoking weed for a few days. But I wasn't stoned when this first happened - well then again maybe I was, but that had nothing to do with it, as the damn thing was still dead the next morning when I was straight as an arrow.

So what was the problem? I don't have any friends who are electricians to ask, and I don't think any of our current Gassers are electricians, but if you are one, please chime in on this. I'm still buying a new power strip regardless, since my old one is at least 5 years old. But why did that single outlet stop working while the others were still on? Or is there something wrong with my 20 year old receiver after all, and it's only a matter of time till it dies again? I mean, even if you're a believer in Christ, even he only had one resurrection, so how many more can my receiver have left? I just know that there's no way that one outlet had a resurrection... but then again, at this point I'm totally confused, other than I know that me toking ganja has nothing to do with it, so please hit me again, Ronnie!
