RIP Yamaha RX 596 (1997- 2017)

Tonight after the 6 pm TV news ended, I turned off the TV for the night and went to turn on my 20 year old Yamaha RX 596 stereo receiver, and nothing! It didn't turn on, and after several attempts to get it to turn on, and after making a few checks, I realized that my old friend Yamaha had died - a sudden death with no warning signs that anything was wrong, what-so-ever! Damn am I gonna miss you RX 596, we had so many great high times together, and for so many years!

Gosh, that receiver was a workhorse for me, used on average all day long, usually 6 days a week, and just like that it's gone! I guess a stereo receiver lasting 20 years is a long time, yet I don't know how long they actually should last for. Anyone know? But I'm lost tonight without it! Plus now I'm gonna have to buy a new one with money that I don't have, not around this time of the year, anyway. Why couldn't it just wait about 2 or 3 months before dying on me? That's at least how long I guess I will have to wait to buy a new one. I was planning to finally buy a new TV around that time, since I only have an old one that today doesn't show the entire picture, since it isn't compatible with the new HD TV technology that they broadcast with nowadays. But where I could live without TV, I can't live without my music. So I'll have to forget about getting a new TV in 2 months, as my music comes first. Just hope I can still have a new TV by the time the new football season gets going in September, as I don't wish to watch another game with a messed up screen ever again!

Now I do still have my old back up stereo receiver, a Pioneer SX 750, which was my very first stereo receiver that I ever owned. Got it around 1975, and it still works, in part since it's only been a back up since around 1987 or so. But it doesn't have a lot of hookups from what I can recall, but it's gonna have to do for now. Last time I used it was for a couple of months back in '97 before the Yamaha entered my life, and after my then second stereo receiver had died.

So another one bites the dust. I will get me another Yamaha as a replacement, since they are very good receivers. I just wonder what model to get this time around?
