Yes, there are tons of weird and creepy moments in Beatles music, often tacked on at the end, as you point out. Other bands would later do these sorts of things and would just sound too intentional about it.
Was the Paul Is Dead thing something that the Beatles did themselves? Or was it something others cooked up? Did Paul himself co-operate with the whole thing?*
* this, of course, assumes that Paul didn't actually die and was not replaced.
