Was the Paul Is Dead thing something that the Beatles did themselves?
No, not at all! It was started by a former NYC rock deejay on WABC FM (later changed to WPLJ) named Roby Young. The tape of the day he started all of this, is online if you do a search for it. But the entire thing just blew up and Young ended up being fired by the radio station over it - and sadly he when broke after that and ended up becoming homeless and was found dead in his car one day, dying young at around age 50. The Beatles had nothing at all to do with it, "Paul" in fact hated it! But of course that Paul would hate it, since he wasn't the real Paul, right?!
