RE: CS Blues (the alternative title of the song)

First, the Stones were very pissed off at Decca Records and that's why they formed Rolling Stones Recordsin 1970, but after they did this, they found out they owed Decca one last single, so this is why they (well Mick J) recorded this song and gave it to Decca as their final single, knowing that it won't ever get released. But it actually was released in 1983 in Germany on the album The Rest of the Best as a bonus single that came with the LP, but it was then dropped from the package just 4 weeks after its release (Manny and Shattered, that has to be what you have and it's worth a lot of money even today if it is).

The song features only Mick on vocals and and Keith on acoustic guitar, however, years later it was said that it only features Mick singing and playing the guitar and there's' no Keith on there.

Another true note is that the Stones never use any other title for this song but "Cocksucker Blues", period. The "aka Schoolboy Blues" came from and was used in some off Broadway play a few years later where the song was sung by a cast member and that production titled the song as "Schoolboy Blues", so that's where that title came from, but it had nothing to do with the Stones. So fans should never call it that since it never was the title, but if you don't wish to say the real title or write it out, then "CS Blues" works, too.

I don't think they've ever performed it live.

Nope, but they (the entire band) rehearsed it in 1978 for their upcoming tour - an electric version which was never played live and the recording was never released, but there is a bootleg of this recording out there.... of course.

What is very cool about this, is when Jagger recorded the original for this song, he did so while being recorded on camera. I've only seen this once - when I saw the original uncut version that Robert Frank released in 1973 (?) without permission from the Stones on one weekend, it played in a total of only 4 movie theaters that weekend, two in NY and 2 in LA. One of those theaters was the hippie run Uniondale Mini Theater on Long Island, which was perhaps the greatest underground theater ever, period. I was a regular at that place and the movies they showed there were flat out great, including very rare releases of Rock concerts and rock films like this one. They had their own newspaper that they put out once a month that announced what they would show, and about 3 weeks in advance they had listed for that Friday and Saturday Night, some movie called "The Rolling Stones - 'CS Blues'" (just how did the Stones not know this in advance?), that was all it said and nobody knew what it was. That night the house was backed and when the movie was supposed to start - nothing at all! One of the freaks who co-owned the place got up on the stage about 20 minutes later and noted this was a very rare, unreleased Stones film - but there would be about another half hour delay till it started. Anybody who didn't wish to wait that long was offered a refund, but I didn't see a single person leave, and then while we waited - almost a full hour for the movie, they started to show other rare rock promo films which were worth seeing. Then finally the movie started. Turns out my future friend and Stones insider JK - he never allows me to post his name here, was why there was a delay in getting the movie to the theater. What he explained to me a few years later was that he picked up the copy of the film from Allen Klein's NYC office, a copy that Klien got directly from Frank (and nobody was to know where my friend got it from, or that he was the one who delivered it to the 2 theaters. The first place he dropped it off was another underground theater in Greenwich Village, then he had to drive the 16 or 17 miles out to Uniondale with the second copy. He had gotten these 2 copies late, and then on his way to Uniondale, he got caught on the LIE in heavy traffic, and that was why there was a long delay. Normally the theater would get a copy of the movies they showed about a week in advance, but that wasn't the case for this one, and the people at the theater had no clue what this even was, since I spoke to them a few days before on the phone. They didn't even know what the "CS Blues" title even meant or what the CS stood for, they just told me that - rumor is it's a tour film, but if you're a hard nosed Stones fan you won't want to miss this - that's all they knew and what they were told by the record company who they were getting this from. So that was all I needed to hear and I made sure I was there the first nite it showed.

But damn were we surprised when the movie started up... First thing shown in text was the full title "Cocksucker Blues", and a few people laughed at that. Then perhaps the best part of the movie came up next - and it was one of the parts that was never shown again in the edited version that was released a few years later after the lawsuit was settled (the original movie I saw was never showed again or seen by anybody, and I don't know of anybody who has it on boot other than the person who's name I can't give you, but nobody has ever gotten a boot of it from him, either). But after that opening with the text, after that it cuts to showing Mick Jagger in the studio with headphone on standing next to a mic. He is totally alone here, no other Stones around, and then he starts to sing the song. What this was, was the very moment that he recorded the song and he did so in one take. No question, this was the best part of the movie and it hasn't been seen since! Nobody in the theater ever had heard this song before, and nobody could believe the dirty homosexual lyrics MJ was singing (you all know what they are by now). I can only recall thinking to myself as I watched this, just what the hell is this and what the hell is this movie gonna be about? But as gay as the song was, I dug it, too, as it was a good song. But other parts of the movie that was never seen again included stuff like full frontal nudity of MJ. Only a part of that is seen in the later on released and very much censored movie, where he's shown backstage before a concert (I think MSG) with about 3 or 4 people standing around him helping him dress, and they show him nude from the back only. But in the unreleased cut, he turns around, to the joy of the girls in the theater... I say to the joy of the girls since I recall the reaction half of them made when it was showed (while none of us guys made a sound). This was a close up frontal shot of Mick nude and you couldn't miss seeing a thing... Other things later on cut out included a shot of Keith shooting up - mainlining heroin directly into his arm, too. That was something else that nobody was expecting to see of course, either. But he's sitting on the floor, along with about maybe 5 to 7 other junkies. He's sitting on the left of them when he shoots up (they are all sitting on the floor shooting up). I recall people watching this was so shocked and couldn't believe their own eyes - that a few were saying things like "That isn't really Keith!".... but it was, and there was no question about it. Afterwards, nobody believed me or my friends who saw this with me, as to seeing this in a movie. A few called us liars, and even years later when I first told this same story right here about that night, I got the same treatment from at least one Gasser who didn't believe me. But it was 100% a true story, as it is now.

There were a few other parts cut out and never seen, including when MT is shown walking down a hotel hallway and he enter his room to find a wild orgie going on with 4 people on the bed (I believe only a part of this might still be in the edited release). But no, MT did not join in with them, he just laughs as he walks past them. But this movie was X rated for sure, even if it had no rating at the time since it wasn't a official release at the time.

That Monday the Stones got a court order stopping Frank from showing the movie again and it took several years until a settlement was reached between Frank and the Stones. In court, it was revealed that Frank was hired by Jagger to shoot a private movie that only they would see.

The edited version that came out after the lawsuit, was just that and what was left to watch wasn't anything great I felt when I saw it. I was one of maybe a few hundred people (at most) in the world to see the unedited full version that weekend. I'll never forget any of that, never, the most shocking nite at a movie theater that I ever witnessed, and the reaction and comments coming from the audience in the theater that nite was alone worth it all.
