RE: RE: BJ/Keith/BTB vs SF/Bad Rock singers/more

Well I half agree with you, but not entirely.

"Rock" music genres are so ill defined, I feel

I actually think the opposite is true on this for Rock music. There is no other music genre that has more sub-genres than Rock music. But that's the thing, they are really called "sub-genres" when they fall inside any one genre. The poll series we are voting on right now is really a "sub-genre" poll, and not a genre poll, but I'm always trying to save space when writing out the polls inside of the poll admin since space limits get in the way of the wording (i.e. text, and 3 letters can be the difference between having enough space or not)... Yet some of what we vote on are true stand alone genres. Country-rock would be one, even if it's more so a rock sub-genre, it ain't all rock and it ain't all country, too. But it got country music in it, too, yet the people who play it most often are looked at as rockers and not as country music artists (for the most part).

"Rock"? "Rock 'n' Roll"? The terms are often interchangeable in common use.

They both mean exactly the same thing, "rock" is just short for "rock n roll", just like "Stones" is just short for "The Rolling Stones". It has nothing to do with the kind of genre its music is.

Bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and for sure ACDC are Heavy Metal, while being part blues too, as most Heavy metal bands are rooted in the blues. But just listen to those bands, the aren't playing pure blues there, either. But all 3 of them are playing "Classic Metal" and don't sound like, say, Speed Metal or Trash Metal", or like B.B. King or Buddy Guy, either, since they aren't.... Slade and KISS are a combo of Glam and Metal, Slade (who I always loved) was 100% a Glam band for sure- they were one of those '70s bands that I talked about that were really pure Glam and became a Metal band when the Glam rockers went away in the '80s. Bowie was pure Glam too in the early '70s, while Iggy was more so a Punk Rocker who had the Glam look to him and his band. Alice Cooper (the band, not the solo singer) was for the most interesting group ever in rock music (IMO) as they were Hard Rock first, but a bit of Glam, Classic Metal, Punk, Theatrical Rock, and New Wave all rap into one band, where as the solo act AC is mainly just a combo of Metal and Theatrical Rock. If anybody needed his old band backing him, it was the singer AC!
