I just can't process this. I just got back from playing a gig in Brooklyn, and I'm exhausted, and this just came outta nowhere. I haven't told SS about it yet - he was at the gig too. He and Jimmy were close, in that weird internet way. Jimmy got him Joe Strummer's autograph!
I became very close to THE Jimmy Whitley for awhile, in that same internet way, right here. We recognized each other as members of the same club and exchanged a lot of emails. He sent me some genuinely cool and thoughtful gifts. We even talked for awhile of meeting somewhere to play some gigs together, but we both knew that was unlikely. Time passed and we lost touch, although I was just reminded of him a few days ago by seeing a cassette he had sent me (I guess that shows that our friendship goes WAY back!) and of course I smiled and felt good. Cardinal Fang was a positive force in the world. The thing I'll always remember is : he said if we lived in the same town, or even the same coast, we would form a band and live on pizza noodles. And I kept that in my back pocket for when all else failed, as it inevitably does. Now my pocket's empty.
Rest in Peace, The Jimmy Whitley. I'm not in the mood to try to see the good in this. It fucking sucks.
