Westcliffe is the county seat of Custer County, Colorado. As of the 2020 census, Westcliffe had a population of 435 and falling. The community was named after Westcliff-on-Sea, a town in England. It is a picturesque town, nestled between the Wet Mountains to the east and the Sangre de Cristo Range to the west. Westcliffe founded in 1881, when the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad was extended to that point. The elevation of Westcliffe is 7,888 feet (2,411 meters).
Westcliffe, has a semi-arid, highland climate with generally warm, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. Average annual precipitation here is ~14.5 inches (37 cm). The highest temperature ever recorded here was 96°F (36°C) in July 11, 1939. The lowest was -46°F (-43°C) in February 10, 1933.
