Keystone is in Summit County, Colorado and today is both a town and a ski resort. The population of the town was 1,369 and rising at the 2020 census. It's ski resort is officially called Keystone Resort. The town of Keystone sits at an elevation of 9,280 feet (2,829 meters) and rises to a summit elevation of 12,408 feet (3,782 meters) at the top of the ski area.

Keystone is a home rule town. The new town of Keystone was voted to incorporate by residents on March 28, 2023, and became a municipality on February 8, 2024. The municipality includes the Keystone Resort and Keystone Village. Keystone Resort was originally constructed in the 1970s by Ralston Purina. It is now owned by Vail Resorts. The Keystone Resort ski area occupies three separate mountains: Dercum Mountain, North Peak, and The Outback. The resort has both summer and winter outdoor activities. Winter activities include alpine skiing, snowboarding, tubing, ice-skating, cross-country skiing, horse-drawn sleigh ride dinners, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Summer activities include hiking, mountain biking, cycling, fishing, trail running, golf on two championship courses, and paddle boating or stand up paddle boarding on Keystone Lake. Keystone is also home to a number of popular summer festivals, including the long-time running Bluegrass and Beer Festival.

The Keystone ski area has a vertical drop of 3,128 feet. (953 meters), a total of 2,870 acres (11.6 km2), and 131 trails. Degree of difficulty percentages for trails: Easiest - 14%, More Difficult - 29%, Most Difficult - 57%. There's 20 Lifts including 2 gondolas, 2 express six-pack and 4 high speed quads. Both Keystone Resort and the town share a classic, high-altitude alpine climate. The area is characterized by long, cold, snowy winters and short, mild summers. The ski area receives an average of about 235 inches / 597 centimeters of natural snowfall per year, the town sees a bit less, about 215 inches / 546 centimeters. Thanks to the high, north-facing slopes and extensive snowmaking at Keystone Resort, snow is preserved well into the spring. Summers are cool and comfortable, with daytime highs ranging from the upper 60s to mid-70s (F), with cool lows in the 30s and 40s F.
