Green Mountain Falls, Colorado

Green Mountain Falls is a picturesque Ute Pass town in El Paso and Teller counties in Colorado. The population was 646 at the 2020 census, with 622 residents living in El Paso County and 24 residents in Teller County. This small mountain town is surrounded by Pike National Forest and it's hidden down below from Highway 24 (about 300 to 400 feet, or 107 meters) in a narrow valley at an elevation 7,756 feet / 2,364 meters. It was established in the 1880s as a Victorian summer resort. Centered around a man-made lake and its iconic gazebo, it grew rapidly after the arrival of the Colorado Midland Railway in 1887 and was officially incorporated in 1890.

The town is located about 19 miles (31 km) west of Colorado Springs in the Ute Pass corridor,
close to the base of Pikes Peak, and has a year-round population of 622 residents (as of 2020); but the town's population increases significantly each summer as people arrive to enjoy their vacation homes and cabins. The town maintains a public trails system consisting of 20 miles of pedestrian trails used year-round by locals and numerous visitors.

Hiking is a popular activity here with water falls, lakes and a fabulous view of Pikes Peak. The waterfalls that Green Mountain Falls are named after, are  located just west of the town center, cascading down the slopes of Pikes Peak. The two primary falls are Crystal Falls and Catamount Falls, both accessible via the popular trail network starting in the village.

Green Mountain Falls features a cold semi-arid climate. It is characterized by abundant sunshine, low humidity, wide daily temperature swings, and brisk, snowy winters, averaging 60 to 80 inches of snowfall each snow season. In summer, the town features pleasant, sunny days in the 70s to low 80s, with classic but brief afternoon mountain showers and thunderstorms, too.
