Its really hard to say what will happen. The guy could live to be in his late 80s or beyond or, yes, he could die behind bars. There are still balls in play here. He's appealing and he will no doubt mount the greatest appeal possible.

But if you ask me, this is really a sentence of 3 years. And that does not seem long for drugging and raping a woman.
