: Watched VH-1's "Woodstock" Behind The Music tonite,
: and got to wondering.
: Surely the Stones were asked to play.
: They had already wrapped Let It Bleed, and performed
: with Mick Taylor in front of a huge crowd in Hyde Park.
: And as an enticement, the Woodstock promoters were paying double what acts were normally getting.
: What was their rationale in turning it down ?
: Of course, we all know they tried to re-create the vibe a few months later at Altamont, with disatrous results.
My guess is that the guys, Mick J. especially, weren't too excited about being just one group among many. I think most of the multi-band gigs they've played(Altamont and Knebworth come to mind)they've been the headliners, officially or unofficially. Ego trip kinda thing. I thought maybe they'd say something about the Stones in the special, but no.
