RE: where the polls are at....

Always great to hear from you dude! Hope all is well in Buffalo!

"Commit a crime" was never a favorite of mine, I didn't even care for its original take, and the Stones played it too safe on this one, sounds too much like the original cut to me. So I gave it a 7.

"Act Naturally" was perfect for Ringo, no question, and I always liked C&W music. I gave it a 9.... To anybody who hasn't voted yet in this week's poll - and this holiday week is killing the polls voter-wise, as we are seeing a super low turnout, not that I didn't predict it, but there's a lot of voters that haven't voted in this poll or any of the polls yet this week, and the Beatles are real close to seeing their first non 10 rated song this week. Not sure if this one would have done better if it was voted on in a normal week, as some rockers just don't care for C&W music, and that's what this song is. But we have a tie for first with the spots 9 and 10, and 8 is just one vote off. But a lot can change in the last hours of any vote in any week, we see this happen often, it seems. Last nite there was a 4 way tie for first with this one, but the rating of "7" fell off a bit in the last 2 days after actually leading earlier in the week by a couple of votes on Tuesday afternoon. So this vote is going down to the wire, and I hope that at least some of our regular voters show up in the next day to still vote in all of the polls.

As far as the Rock poll, even it has taken a hit in the vote count, and it's 12 week streak of receiving 3,000 plus votes each week, will more than likely come to an end when this week closes out, unless something insane happens with the vote count.... Interesting that you dig "Afternoon Delight". But I don't claim to know the Starland Vocal Band that well, but they sound like ABBA on this one, at least. I do recall them working on the John Denver song, "Take Me Home, Country Roads", a song I always loved, and 2 of their members co-wrote that song and sang on it with John. But no, they aren't doing too great in the poll, vote wise. Bill Danoff actually wrote several songs with john and I only really know him from some of the Denver songs he co-wrote and played on.

At the moment, we have another close call at the Rock poll, with a tie for first with "Day Tripper" and "Sunny Afternoon"... The song I voted for, "Saturday in the Park", reminds me of my earliest preteen days in this park in Brooklyn, NY, that was diown the street from my grandma's house. It's tied for third with the song that would have been my second choice, "Pleasant Valley Sunday", which reminds me of the place where I mainly grew up at on Long Island. Always felt that this song should have been titled "Nassau County Sunday", since it described that entire area to a tee (at least on how it was in the late '60s and early '70s, anyway). From what I read, it was written about a spot in New Jersey, just across the Hudson River from NYC and not too far away from where I grew up, and what it talks about in that song is why I got the hell out of that area for good, as soon as I finished high school.

So to all reading this, do take the time to vote if you haven't done so yet.
