OVERVIEW
Though the show started a little slow, despite surprising (me at least) with 'JJF' out the gate. Nice to hear Ron copy the little high-note leads from the original on JJF. Seems to me the show got started going full-force about five songs in, with 'Rocks Off' then 'Worried About You.' I was very happy to hear Mick sing 'ever seen ---eeee-eee-eee-eeen' as he does on the 'Start Me Up' original. I noticed Charlie did the full-time drum beat at the beginning of 'Satisfaction,' like recording, then backed off during vox parts. Also, Mick sang first chorus of 'Honky Tonk' like the record: 'Haaah--aaaah-aaaah-aaankee Tonk Women' not 'Honn-ketonk, Honn-ketonk' as on Love You Live and since. Ron was missing notes as usual but seemed better than average -- I particularly liked the dissonant solo to 'Start Me Up.' They all seemed to have fun doing 'Get Off My Cloud.'
Best performances, off hand, in no order:
1. 'Midnight Rambler' -- interesting to see it in Garden where the famed recording was made
2. 'Worried About You'
3. 'Tumbling Dice' -- it is ALWAYS great
4. 'Start Me Up'
5. 'Rocks Off'
KEITH
Little on-stage connection with Mick as usual. Seemed to pay attention to his guitar a lot, which is fine by me. Keith's two-fer vox slot was far better than his Meadowlands showing ('Empty' is more complete than 'Infamy'), and it was refreshing to NOT hear the 'glad to be here, glad to be anywhere' joke for the 114th time. Keith missed first 'Sympathy' solo but seemed good on the closing solo of the song.
THE BAD
Chuck was a little too animated on the mini-stage with the 'Honky Tonk' dance/vocals. But I'll try to be nice. 'You Can't Always Get an Encore' didn't really gel the way it did, for me, at the Meadowlands show. 'Miss You' was a little better this time, but was a little tired too. I don't care for 'Oh No.'
