Snowmass Village (elevation 8,309 feet / 2,533 meters), is a home rule municipality in Pitkin County, Colorado. The population was 3,096 at the 2020 census. This village is to the north and at the base of the Snowmass Ski Area. The ski resort is attached to it, and neither should be confused with the original nearby small town of Snowmass (aka Old Snowmass). Snowmass Village, is just nine miles from Aspen, and besides the fun to be had at village's massive ski resort in winter, in the summer it has extensive downhill biking and hiking trails, serving as a central hub for outdoor recreation and alpine events. The town is a purpose-built resort village with ski-in/ski-out lodging and a more family-focused vibe than nearby Aspen.The Snowmass ski area is the largest of the four nearby ski areas operated collectively as Aspen/Snowmass. The ski resort has 3,332 acres (1,348 hectares) of terrain, the most vertical feet in the country. Other winter activities include cross-country skiing, snow tubing, ice skating, and an alpine coaster. When the snow melts at Snowmass, biking is the king of the mountain, with maintained trails across lift-served and cross-country terrain. There's also the Snowmass Bike Park, offering over 50 miles of purpose-built, multi-skill level downhill and cross-country mountain biking trails, and finally, for hiking and other wilderness fun, Snowmass provides direct access to the spectacular Maroon Bells–Snowmass Wilderness.
Climate wise, Snowmass features a classic alpine climate with long, freezing winters and short, comfortable summers, with an average of 300 sunny days per year. The ski area sees an average of about 300 inches of seasonal snowfall.
