The City of Montrose (elevation 5,807 feet / 1,770 meters) is the most populous municipality of Montrose County, Colorado. It is located in western Colorado, in the upper Uncompahgre Valley and has a total area of 18.5 square miles (48 km2); all of it being land. The city's population was 20,291 at the 2020 U. S. Census. Located in western Colorado, in the Uncompahgre Valley, it's a economic, labor, and transportation waypoint for the surrounding area. Montrose is the second-largest city in western Colorado, after Grand Junction.

Montrose features a semi-arid continental climate zone. It sees less than 10 inches of rainfall a year (9.33 inches / 237mm) along with just 21.5 inches (55.2 cm) of snow per season (a low amount for Colorado). It can get hot here, but the air is dry, too, with the all time high temperature at 106°F (41°C) , this record high was set on August 1, 1947. The coldest temperature reading was  -27°F / -33°C, set twice. The first time was on January 22, 1930, and the second time, when the record was tied, took place on  January 13, 1963.
