Hartsel is an unincorporated community in Park County, Colorado. Its elevation sits at 8,904 feet (2,714 meters), it covers 605 square miles and its population was 38 at the 2020 census. Founded in 1880, Hartsel is known as “The Heart of Colorado”, due to its location at the geographic center of the state. US Highway 24 runs through the middle of this hamlet, as does the South Platte River.
According to the Köppen climate classification system, Hartsel has a Cold Semi-arid climate. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the Plant Hardiness zone is 3b with an average annual extreme minimum temperature of −30.7°F (-35°C). Summers are warm with chilly nights in the 30s and 40s (°F, or about 4°C) and some thunderstorm activity during the months of July and August. Winters are cold and dry with lows below zero (°F, or -18°C). Snowfall averages around 48 to 53 inches (about 127 centimeters) of snow per season while overal precip being very low at only about 10 to 14 inches (about 31 centimeters).

- Next, Antero Junction, Colorado -
Antero Junction is an extinct town located in Park County, Colorado. Notice, it's not called a ghost town, since there really isn't anyplace left of the old town for ghosts to hang out in or call home. The former townsite was located at an elevation of 9,187 feet (2,800 meters) and located at the junction of U.S. Route 285 and U.S. Route 24. The former community took its name from Mount Antero and the highway junction. The town of Antero Junction was founded in 1892 and featured a small community mostly dedicated to ranching, farming, and serving travelers moving through Park County. Antero Junction is 12 miles southwest of Hartsel.
