Cameron Pass, Colorado

Bordering the northeast side of Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), Cameron Pass, elevation 10,276 feet (3,132 meters), is a high mountain pass in north-central Colorado. An area where jagged peaks overlook pristine alpine lakes surrounded by tens of thousands of acres of forested landscape. The pass is a gap between the south end of the Medicine Bow Mountains and the north end of the Never Summer Mountains. It sits on the border between Jackson County and Larimer County, approximately 3 miles (5 km) north of the boundary of RMNP. The pass is the most traveled route between Fort Collins and Walden in North Park, using State Highway 14. 

Located in the area of Colorado’s moose capital, Cameron Pass is home to a breathtaking, rugged landscape. It’s wildlife is abundant and the opportunities of things to do in the wildness are endless. The pass is drained on the north side by a tributary of the Cache la Poudre River, Joe Wright Creek, in the basin of the South Platte River. It is drained on the south side by the Michigan River, a tributary of the North Platte River in North Park.

The Cameron Pass weather station is at the summit of the pass and its data shows that Cameron Pass has a subarctic climate. It receives 44.16 inches (112.16 centimeters) of precip per year with an average of 250.0 inches (636 centimeters) of snow falling each winter. The pass is also highly prone to avalanches thanks to its landscape and amount of snow that falls on it annually.
