I’d always thought of it as being sung directly from a drug infused deathbed, shortly before death.
Yeah, I can see how it appears to some that the person is about to die looking at how the lyrics are written, and had she, then the song would have been included in the poll. But then again, had she died - the song won't have ever been written, either!
The other thing about this song, is that there was an actual death of another person which caused Marianne to overdose in the first place, as it was her reaction to Brian Jones' death (her lover before Jagger), which had taken place 6 days before her overdose. Marianne has flat out stated this in interviews, that it was his death that cause her to OD, as she couldn't handle his passing.
