Despite all the mass shootings, which have been on the rise, and been widely covered in the media, violent crime rates have steadily declined in the USA since the end of world war II, as have homicide rates.
Its pretty hard to square this with what you see on the news. But its true. We are a more peaceful society than ever before, with less homicide and less violence.
But these mass shootings still tell us that something is really wrong with the fabric of our society.
They know nothing about this shooter in Vegas, but something was up there. He had to be angry about something to shoot into a crowd of people he did not know.
Perhaps we will learn what he was thinking and what motivated him to do this, but I don't know if it will make any difference.
