When you talk about your celestial night show you are making me jealous. Living as I do, in a city, means light pollution takes away any chance of seeing the night sky as it really is. I used to hike a lot in the Highlands, sleeping in the bothies at night, and out on the hills during the day. At night it was amazing to look up and see the Milky Way. I haven't been able to do that for a couple of years as my right knee is gubbed. That said, the U.K.'s first Dark Sky Park isn't a million miles away from me, so maybe I should get down there for a weekend. Better still, maybe I should just up sticks and move to the heart of the great lone star state of Texas....I hear that the stars at night are big and bright there lol.
I agree with you that after your close encounter with Ursa Major (keeping the cosmos theme going lol), that extra care is wise. I'm not so sure though that if I had a dog I wouldn't be taking it out on my evening strolls if I lived where you do. I mean I can see situations where the dog might lose it's life by attacking whatever is lurking about waiting to pounce on you, but that just might buy you the time to save yours. I know people get really attached to their mutts, but when all is said and done, it's just a dog, you can get another one.
I'm sort of loath to broach the other topic, but since you've mentioned it again, I'll just say this....ok, the consequences might not be particularly grave, but it is a serious enough matter when someone behaves in this manner, so hopefully your initiatives will be enough to bring it to a halt...as for the extra protection and finance, I'm happy to get the ball rolling on that.
