RE: RE: Hunter's death

He first made a well know quote about death that many found interesting, this: “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!” Once he got to that stage of his life he did just that, but with no warning at all to his family. It was said to have gone down like this... that he was at home in Woody Creek Co with his son and 2 young grandsons (this was around 2006 I believe). His son said his dad seemed fine that day, other than he was bitching about the football season being over and that he was bored. He said that he was in the mood to take a hike, but that it was snowing too much outside and his son told him to go take a short walk with his grandkids anyway. But instead, he went into his office to call his wife up on the phone. It was the last time his kids would see him alive.

On the phone with his wife, he asked her to come on home to help him with writing the rest of his column that he wrote for ESPN. She said that was all he said to her, and next thing was, she hears a noise that she mistakes as the sound of him typing, but what she actually heard was the cocking of one of his handguns, and he then pulled the trigger and shot himself in the head. There were no warnings that day that he was about to do this, other than that winter he was having some health problems that was depressing him a bit.

So, that's the story behind his death, his son of course found his body, with the phone off the hook. But he never said to anybody that he was going to kill himself that day, he just did it while on the phone with his wife with no warning what-so-ever.
