- South America -

South America is a continent entirely in the Western Hemisphere and mostly in the Southern Hemisphere, with a considerably smaller portion in the Northern Hemisphere. It can also be described as the southern subregion of the Americas. It is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean; North America and the Caribbean Sea lie to the northwest and the Drake Passage (aka the Hoces Sea) marks the southern boundary of South America. However, the boundary between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans is sometimes taken to be a line drawn for this boundary, though the International Hydrographic Organization defines it as the meridian that passes through Cape Horn, South America. But both lines lie within the Drake Passage.

The continent includes twelve sovereign states: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela; two dependent territories: the Falkland Islands and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands; and one internal territory: French Guiana. Additionally several of the small islands off South America are also a part of the continent, but not all. It is South America has an area of 17,840,000 square kilometers (6,890,000 sq mi).

South America has an area of 17,840,000 square kilometers (6,890,000 sq miles) and its population as of 2021 has been estimated at more than 434 million. It ranks fourth in area (after Asia, Africa, and North America) and fifth in population (after Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America). Brazil is by far the most populous South American country, with almost half of the continent's population. The continent's cultural and ethnicity is of Indigenous peoples and Mestizos, with others with ancestors only from Europe (mainly Spaniards, Portuguese and Italians) and Africa. The overwhelming majority of South Americans speak Spanish or Portuguese. Spanish is the official language of most countries, along with other native languages in some countries. Portuguese is the official language of Brazil. Dutch is the official language of Suriname; English is the official language of Guyana. English is also spoken in the Falkland Islands. French is the official language of French Guiana and the second language in Amapá, Brazil. Indigenous languages are also spoked in several countries.

All of the world's major climate zones are present in South America, with areas to the north being the warmest and locations to the south the coldest.

Rio de Janeiro (Portuguese: [ˈʁi.u d(ʒi) ʒɐˈne(j)ɾu]), or simply Rio, is the capital of the estado (state) of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is located on the Atlantic Ocean, in the southeastern part of the tropical zone of South America, and is widely recognized as one of the world’s most beautiful and interesting urban centres. It's well known for the beauty of its beaches and of its peaks, ridges, and hills—all partly covered by tropical forests. It was founded in 1565 by the Portuguese.

Rio de Janeiro lies on a strip of Brazil’s Atlantic coast, close to the Tropic of Capricorn, where the shoreline is oriented east-west; the city largely faces south. It was founded on an inlet of this stretch of the coast, Guanabara Bay (Baía de Guanabara), the entrance to which is marked by a point of land called Sugar Loaf (Pão de Açúcar).

The population of the city of Rio de Janeiro, occupying an area of 1,182.3 km2 (456.5 sq mi), is about 6,000,000. The population of the greater metropolitan area is estimated at 11–13.5 million.

The average annual minimum temperature is 21°C (70°F), the average annual maximum temperature is 27°C (81°F), and the average annual temperature is 23°C (73°F). Pinamar Beach, Pinamar, Buenos Aires, Argentina
(From Power Pinamar)

Pinamar is an Argentine coastal resort city located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean in Buenos Aires Province. It has about 45,000 inhabitants (as of 2020). Located less than 400 km (249 mi) south of Buenos Aires, it is one of several small seaside communities that line the coast. Pinamar is set apart from most of the other Argentine beach cities since it is a planned city with a very strict building code, and it has been artificially turned from wild sand dunes into a forest (mostly of pine trees, which explains the "pina" in the town's name).

The climate here is considered warm and temperate. Pinamar annual rainfall is around 934 mm/36.8 inch per year.
