ROLLING STONES LYRICS

STREET FIGHTING MAN

Originally titled "Pay Your Dues", along with different lyrics. Recorded March and April, 1968. Released on Beggars Banquet in '68.

Lead Vocal: Mick Jagger; Acoustic Guitars: Keith Richards; Sitar and Tamboura: Brian Jones; Bass Guitar: Keith Richards(?) or Bill Wyman (?); Drums: Charlie Watts; Piano: Nicky Hopkins; Shehnai: Dave Mason; Backing Vocals: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

Notes: Keith Richards had noted that there are no electric guitars on this song . What sounds like them are 2 acoustic guitars and the sitar, recorded, quoting Richards, "through a cassette player with no limiter". The sitar's twang and the tambour's drone, also leads to the confusion.

Street Fighting Man
(M. Jagger/K. Richards)

Ev'rywhere I hear the sound of marching, charging feet, boy
'Cause summer's here and the time is right for fighting in the street, boy
Well then what can a poor boy do
Except to sing for a rock 'n' roll band
'Cause in sleepy London town
There's just no place for a street fighting man
No!

Hey! Think the time is right for a palace revolution
'Cauce where I live the game to play is compromise solution
Well then what can a poor boy do
Except to sing for a rock 'n' roll band
'Cause in sleepy London town
There's no place for a street fighting man
No!
Get down

Hey! Said my name is called disturbance
I'll shout and scream, I'll kill the king, I'll rail at all his servants
Well, what can a poor boy do
Except to sing for a rock 'n' roll band
'Cause in sleepy London town
There's no place for a street fighting man
No
Get down
