ROLLING STONES LYRICS IT'S ONLY ROCK N ROLL (BUT I LIKE IT) Recorded in December 1973 and April/May 1974. Released as a U.S. and UK single in July of 1974. Also released on the album It's Only Rock 'n Roll in October of 1974. This song was at first written by Ron Wood, before he was a Stone, back when he was putting together his first solo album. Mick Jagger dropped by Wood's home studio when Woody and his fellow Faces' bandmates were working on the song, and Jagger helped him finish writing some of the lyrics to it and for the most part - took the song away from him to be used as a Stones song instead; even if none of the Stones (besides Jagger) were on the record (again, Wood wasn't a Stone at this time). After the song was in the can, Mick secured it for the Stones by trading it for a Jagger/Richards song to be named soon after. When Keith Richards got ahold of the song's tape in the studio, he edited out most of Wood's guitar parts and rerecorded the same parts he heard with his own guitar. The song's credit then was changed to a "Jagger/Richards" number (this was not a part of the song swap deal); leaving Wood with no writing credit at all on the song, even though he wrote 90% of the song and Richards had nothing to do with it's creation. Bowie. If I could stick my pen in my heart
If I could win ya, if I could sing ya
I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it
If I could stick a knife in my heart
If I could dig down deep in my heart
I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it
And do ya think that you're the only girl around?
I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it
