Shinnecock Hills is a hamlet in Suffolk County, New York. The population was 2,282 as of the 2020 census. Shinnecock Hills is in the Town of Southampton. According to the Census Bureau, it has has a total area of 3.1 square miles (7.9 km2), of which 2.9 square miles (7.4 km2) is land and 0.19 square miles (0.5 km2), or 6.61%, is water. The highest point in Shinnecock Hills is 141 feet (43 meters) above sea level, with the average elevation at 79 feet (24 m).

Ponqogue is primarily known for the federally recognized Shinnecock Indian Nation, is a self-governing, sovereign, and federally recognized Indigenous tribe. Their traditional Algonquian name translates to "people of the stony shore". The 800+ acre Shinnecock Reservation is located at the southeastern edge of Long Island, south of the Great Peconic Bay. The community operates small local businesses and a cultural center.

The Ponquogue Bridge is a 2,812-foot-long (857 m) bridge over Shinnecock Bay in the hamlet of Hampton Bays, New York (within the town of Southampton). Maintained by the Department of Works for Suffolk County, the 29-span bridge carries two lanes of County Route 32 over the bay, connecting Hampton Bays to the eastern end of Westhampton Island.

 

Shinnecock Bay: Is a major estuary and body of water located south of the town, prized for fishing, boating, and marine conservation research.
