Sag Harbor (elevation 26 feet / 8 meters) is an incorporated village in Suffolk County, New York, in the towns of Southampton and East Hampton on eastern Long Island. The village developed as a working port on Gardiners Bay. The population was 2,772 at the 2020 census. A major whaling and shipping port in the 19th century, by the end of this period and in the 20th century, it became a destination for wealthy people who summered there.
Sag Harbor is roughly a 2.5 to 3-hour drive from New York City (approx. 100 miles away). Things to do here include visiting the Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum, where you can explore the village’s rich seafaring history in a 1845 Greek Revival mansion. Then there's Bay Street Theater: C where you can catch a contemporary play, musical, or comedy show. Plus visit Havens Beach where you can relax on this family-friendly sandy beach next to the calm, shallow waters on Sag Harbor Bay.
Summers here are warm and humid with ocean breezes, while winters are very cold, windy, and with 27 inches (69 cm) of snowfall annually.
