Manhasset is located in Nassau County, on the North Shore of Long Island, in New York and is partially located on the southwestern part of the Cow Neck Peninsula. It's population was 8,176 at the time of the 2020 census. The name Manhasset was adopted for the community in 1840. The anglicized rendition of the name of a nearby Native American tribe whose name translates to "the island neighborhood".
Manhasset has a total area of 2.4 square miles (6.2 km2), of which 2.4 square miles (6.2 km2) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2), or 1.24%, is water. It's elevation 130 feet (40 meters). The town has the same climate as most of Long Island, being a humid subtropical climate and experiences hot, humid summers and cold winters. It sees 45.31 inches (1,151 mm) of water fall from the sky each year with 23.2 inches (58.7 cm) of that in snowfall. It's highest / hottest temperature reading was a humid 108°F (42°C) in July 1966 and the coldest reading was −5°F (−21°C) set on a very cold February 4, 1978 morning.
