Steel Wheels is one of the Stones' most disposable albums. Blinded By Love and Hearts For Sale absolutely blow. Two songs that bad on an album can wreck the whole thing for me. But I still think there are a few things the Stones could have done to make that a real, real big seller.
Released Almost Hear You Sigh as the first single. It screams top 40, it's memorable, it's catchy and it seems to relate to an adolescent sense of loss. To put it bluntly, chicks dig it. It would have sold the album like Angie sold Goat's Head.
Cut the length. It's the first "made for cd release" the Stones did. They made the mistake that a lot of bands make. It holds 70 + mins. of music, so we gotta fill it up. 45 mins. is plenty if the songs are great, and if you pear off three or four (your pick of songs) tracks from this it gets pretty good.
Voodoo Lounge is better. It gets better every time I listen to it. Mean Disposition is the shit.
