: "....singles singles singles. that's all fucking radio cares about. radio destroys collective memoory, replacing it with three minute grabs and a lot of talk." "....mass public acceptance doesn't equal worth. if it did then the current american musical institutions are britney spears and the ploliferating boy bands. oh god no."
: Say fuckin' a few more times, add a y'all or two, and write half that post in parenthasis and you'll have the same rant I've been obsessing on these boards for the past four years.
: I usualy try to end my anti-top-40 posts by recommending some current rock bands that are sadly overlooked, but none come to mind right now. Could someone pick up the slack and remind us that real music ain't dead, just hidden up on a high shelf where those impressionable children can't reach it.
Beck - Mutations...last drinks at sunset, Beggars Banquet acoustic stroll 'round the nether regions of the brain.
You Am I - Sound As Ever / HI FI Way / Hourly, Daily - unknown (in America at least) Australian band...amazing rockin pop...60s classicism without the Oasis drag and the Teenage Fanclub tongue-in-cheek
Blur- last two albums near-masterpieces. Forget "Song 2"...it was a joke...check out the albums. weird but worth it.
Radiohead...Pink Floyd with substance (sorry folks)
JSBX (JOn Spencer BLues Explosion) - Orange / Now I got Worry / Acme - If you have none of these records GO OUT RIGHT NOW AND BUY EM!!! Orange in particular is a flat-out piece of genius. ELvis vocals, dirty blues, ranting, legs-akimbo guitra gods. Stones 68-72...here it is. enjoy it, for we've all waited along time for this kind of music.
there's more, but i can't think very well off the top of my head.
