Poll Post for the week starting Monday, May 20

Week 1,034 of the Stones poll is here and in which we partake in 2 different poll questions. The first poll will ask this: Rate the Stones live performance video for “I'm Alright”

This week we take a live look at the Stones performing the song "I'm Alright", from a concert they played in Ireland, way back in 1965. This performance would later on be shown in the movie Charlie is my Darling.

As I'm sure you recall, this is a short song, with its running time clocking in at just under 2 minutes (at only 1:56). But short songs like this were of course the norm in those days, thanks totally to AM radio and the short air time the station managers would allow most songs to be - if they were to play the song on the radio. Any song longer than around 3:30 or so would be rejected and not played back then (thank goodness FM radio came about and changed all of that BS!).

To see the video and then rate it from zero to 10, just click here: Stones Weekly Poll, and when there, then click on Poll 1 to vote on this poll.

For the second Stones Poll this week, the question is: Blue & Lonesome vs Let It Bleed, which album do you like best?

vs

The Blue Poll was the very last of this Stones series to enter the action of these battles - since it's host LP, Blue & Lonesome, wasn't released until 2016, long after this soon to be completed and long running series was started up. B&L in its 21 matches has a losing record of 7-14, and is sitting in 19th place in the standings. It won't end any lower that that spot once all of these matchups are finished, and it could leapfrog several spots upwards in the standings if it wins out in its last 3 rounds. But this week it goes up against the LP with the second best record in these matches, as Let It Bleed sits in second place at 21-1, with its only loss against the undefeated Sticky Fingers. If you think B&L can pull off an upset win this week against LIB, well then, I want some of what you're smoking!

To see the songs that appear on Blue & Lonesome, click here: B&L, and for the songs on Let It Bleed, click here: LIB. Just remember when looking over the songs on each LP, ignore my ratings for the songs that you will see, as I rather not influence anybody with what I have down there for each song before anyone votes. As I’ve been noting, I have no choice but to link to my own site now for these polls for the album’s song list, thanks to The Stones official site taking down all the album pages that were up there for years, so there’s nothing there to link to anymore!

To vote in this week’s second Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll and click on Poll 2.

Looking back at our first Stones poll last week, the question was: Rate the Stones live performance video for “Love In Vain”

Just how can you love the Stones and not give this live take a 10? Well I did anyway, as did 37.5% of other fans who voted in the poll last week, and that was good enough for a first place finish (and the fifth highest 10 score that any Stones video has been rated, too!). 72.5% of the voters gave this video either a 9 or a 10, so yes, it is well liked indeed. You can check out on where the other votes went by clicking here: Stones Weekly Poll 1 - week 1,033 Or, check out how all of the videos that we have voted on so far have been rated by clicking here .

The second Stones poll last week asked this question: Some Girls vs Their Satanic Majesties Request, which album do you like best?

vs

For the second week in a row (and for the last possible time) Some Girls won another match. It ends this series with a final record of 20-4, and for now sits in 5th place in the standings (but that could still change even if SG is out of matches).

This week our Classic Rock Poll enters week 674, and in this one we also vote on 2 different poll questions in one week. At our first poll, the question is: Who sang the worst vocals in a Rock song?

In the past while we have voted for the worst lyrics in a song, we haven't asked this one yet about worst vocals for any one song. Now we will mainly choose from Rock songs here, but a few are for sure Pop songs. Some of the songs that we will vote on this week I would had rather not listed, as I don't think they are that bad, but, if these songs keep coming up repeatedly on these kinds of lists, how do I not list them? Kind of like Starship's "We Built This City", which seems to come up as the worst all time song ever made - on it seems 9 out of 10 lists, yet I don't understand why? Now don't get me wrong, I'm not too crazy about the number myself, it's a silly song, yes, but is it really the worst ever? Worse than say, Sid Vicious trying to sing "My Way" (if you haven’t heard that one before, do so before you vote, it's on Youtube, but I warn you, listening to this cover just might cause damage to your ears). Plus it isn't just Sid's singing, how about any song that Fred Schneider of the B52s ever tried to sing? Just terrible! Or how about hating anything that the all-time asshole of assholes, Kanye West has ever sang (well okay, he makes the list simply for being an asshole, as I don't know too much about his singing, but I'm told he sucks at that, too)? Anyway, "We Built This City" is a better song than most of the 37 songs listed in this week's polls. Yet I already know that many of our voters are gonna vote for it regardless, because they been told by others that it's the worst rock song ever, that, and I guess some feel it just is.

Now I know that some of my fellow Stones fans - or at least Keith Richards fans, won't care for the song I choose by the Stones as their worst sung song. While it isn't their all-time worst ever song overall, vocals wise it is to me their worst sang, anyway – as it clearly sucks to me and is one of the few Stones songs that I skip over when I play the LP it's on. But again, I know for a fact that some Keith fans actually like the song in question, yet to me Keith's vocal sounds flat out awful on the song (it's one of his crooner songs - and most if not all of his crooner songs suck, IMO, and you're gonna have to look at the Poll's song list to see which song I'm talking about). Yet no, while it's the worst sung Stones song ever, IMO, it ain't what I'll vote for this week, as it isn't even on my top 10 list for worst sung Rock song - but then again, it's close. To see this week’s song list that we will choose from, click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

For our second Rock poll this week, we have the Rock VS poll, which asks this question: Jimmy Page vs Pete Townsend, who was the better song writer?

So no, last week's question wasn't some one-off thing to ask, as we will be covering this kind of question for the next few weeks. This week we look at two of the best rock lead guitarists around who are also both looked at as great songwriters, too. So forget about who was the better lead guitarists when answering this question, only their songwriting skills are to be looked at for this poll. Both of them wrote some of rock's biggest and well-loved songs ever made, but who was the better writer? To cast your vote in this week’s second Rock poll, just click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

Looking back at last week’s 2 Rock polls, the first question asked: Who sang the best vocals for singing nontraditional lyrics in a Rock song?

Boy oh boy was this one very close all week long, and with less than 24 hours before the close of voting on this one, a song which was in first place - ended up tied with 2 other songs/singers for third place! Yet I like what came out first, even if I didn’t vote for the choice myself, with the #1 pick being “Blue Moon” with “Bomp baba bomp, ba bomp ba bomp bomp, bbaba bomp baba bomp, da dang da dang dang, da ding and dong ding”, being sang by The Marcels' lead singer, Cornelius Harp. Yes, that was a mouthful to sing, for sure! The other thing I like about this pick is that it was one of the older songs listed, released way back in 1961, and I like seeing the oldest of rock songs getting picked once in a while in any poll. It’s great that at the least, most of us older rock fans won’t forget the true early classics… Second place in the poll went to The Beach Boys’ “Barbara Ann”, and as noted above, a 3 way tie for third place took place between “Hey Jude” by The Beatles, then the one I voted for: Harry Nilsson's wonderful humming throughout Ringo Starr’s cover of “Only You”, and Cher's high pitched backing vocal on the Righteous Brothers cover of “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’”, the vocal that inspired me to ask this question in the first place.

To see where the other songs/singers listed in the poll ended up in the voting, click here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 673. Or to see the Top 10 finish only, you can do that at this list page: Top Ten Lists, Page, 14. But one thing, by mid or late week – that is if I get to it, I’ve been planning a new Top 10 page, as the current page is getting too long and a new page is needed badly, so the page this info shows up on might change by week’s end. It will be on the new Rock List Page 16 (as the third Rock VS page is the 15th list page) sooner or later.

Looking back at last week’s VS Rock poll, the question asked: Lennon/McCartney vs Jagger/Richards, which was the better song writing team?

vs

Nope, this one was never, ever close, as Lennon/McCartney lead in a landslide for the entire week. To see the full, final results, click here: Classic Rock Poll 2, week 673. Or to see the results on the VS list page only, please go here: VS Page 3, List Page 15, and look under "Songwriters VS Polls".

Let’s finish this poll post up as in the usual matter, with the Beatles poll, where we enter week 425, and the question asks: What is the Beatles most angriest or downer song?

We usually think of the Beatles' songs as being happy and up songs, but no question, they also had a downer side to some of their songs, too. So we will choose from the 30 Beatles songs that either were about being angry, or ones that had a downer side to them. Understand that we are not looking at any covers here, the song had to be written by a member of the group.... Also note, we are not asking for the best song listed here. We are looking for the angriest or most downer song, only. Also one last thing to mention, is that we aren't looking for sad songs here either (that's another poll question - that we may or may not have voted on already, if not, in time we will), so even if some of these tunes are sad, no, that isn't what we are looking for with this question.

So which of the angry or downer songs by the Fabs did you like most? To vote in this Beatle poll, just click here: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 421

In last week’s Fab poll….The poll question was this: What was the best lead guitar heard on a Beatles song not played by George Harrison?

I really didn't wish to include Eric Clapton's lead guitar playing in this list, since I wanted it to be a Beatles band members only poll (and, as far as I know, Dave Mason is the only other guest Rock musician to ever play guitar on a Beatles song), but with the question's wording, I had to include that song. Ringo did try once to play guitar on a song, but his effort wasn't used since it was so bad; it was so bad that producer George Martin forbid him to ever pick up another guitar in the studio again!). But I'll note, that we all knew Clapton's guitar playing would be picked first in this poll, and it was, but barely. In second place was Paul McCartney's wonderful lead on "Ticket to Ride", and next up was John Lennon landing in the next 4 spots, that’s spots three (his lead on "Revolution") thru seven. Out of the top ten songs chosen from this poll, John played the lead guitar on 6 of them, Paul on 4 – and yeah, adding in Clapton's one lead adds up to 11 songs - and that's because on one song (Birthday), both Lennon and McCartney shared the lead guitar duties.

To view the very interesting final results from this poll, just go here: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 424, or to see the top results on this Beatles List Page, click: here. BTW, the vote count for this poll last week was a record high for any Beatles weekly poll and the 5th highest ever voted on overall weekly poll!

So that takes care of yet another poll post. I noted here last week how busy I had been the week before that, but holly hell, this last week was even worst, as it was time to fix last winter’s problems that had developed here over the last half year, including installing a new water heater, to fixing the back log steps to the house. My house is 17 years old now and everything I bought brand new back then is now starting to all break at the very same time. Besides the water heater, in the last year I’ve had to replace the stove, refrigerator, and dryer. Gosh, that only leaves the washer now! Thank goodness I opened an IRA in the early ‘90s, it’s paid for all that stuff today, yet I never dreamed I would use it for that. Hell, I only opened it up years ago thanks to the tax credits they gave you back then, but damn, it has been a life saver now in my retirement. If you’re in your 40s or 50s now, I highly recommend getting something like this right now if you haven’t yet, because it will come in handy when you grow old and don’t see as much cash rolling in – and believe me, the next 20 or so years will be at your front door before you realize it, and having some extra cash to get by with – well you’ll be glad you have it when those days of old age come around!

I thank all of you for voting in last week’s and this week’s polls!
