RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: Toy car collector?

To open and play it would greatly reduce its value, and hence "rareness". Serious collectors have hundreds of these items.

And I never understood that at all! Why buy something if you will never once open it or use it? I recall when my son was a boy, maybe 6 or 7 years old, and his best friend who lived across the street, and who was the same age, had all of these unopened Matchbox cars. So they would always only play with my kids toy cars because of that - and when he went over to his friend's house, he would bring his over there to share, and half the time he won't return with all of them. Yet this kid would brag that he had the biggest Matchbox car collection, yet he never played with any of them. That's when I found out that all of his toy cars were still unopened in the box they were brought in. The kid tells me if he never opened them, that his dad told him they would be worth a lot of money one day when he grew up, since they would be collectors items. So I told the boy, yeah sure, but that they weren't worth anything at that time, while my kids cars were worth something big - since he got so much joy out of them right now. I guess the kid understood what I meant by that and went home and opened all of his cars boxes up at once. Then the next day his dad comes over to my house all mad at me, as if I had told him to do something bad! But I never even told the boy to open up his toys, and IMO, his father was a total jerk - and I told him that while using other words. He decided not to let our 2 kids play together after that - talk about a true moron! But you can't keep kids apart, and within 2 to 3 weeks they were back playing together again - but only at our house, since I didn't want my kid anywhere near that crazy guy.

But what's the use in having something if you never open it? It's like you don't really have it at all to begin with! Plus in this case, the dad was forcing a collection on his little kid who only wanted to play with his toys! Stupid old man, to say the least.
