Another prize sought be collectors is the still-sealed unplayed vintage LP, rare and of high value. The intent is never to play it despite the pristine condition and inherently superior sound quality, but to keep it unplayed indefinitely. To open and play it would greatly reduce its value, and hence "rareness". Serious collectors have hundreds of these items. I sort of get it, although it still seems a bit weird that the original intent of those discs, to enjoy listening to their music content, will never be realized.
