First, thanks for the kind words...
We enter our last 2 weeks here now with our small group of posters. Where once Gasx3 had hundreds of active passwords out there and so most anybody could post, today there's very few, and that was my doing. So I was thinking - just maybe in the last 2 weeks I could open up the board to like it was when we first started out 20 years ago we had no password here. Those of you who were around back then may recall how crazy it was back in those days. But things got out of control, too, and I don't want that even for just 2 weeks time. Plus would it even be fair to do that to the handful of regulars who kept this place going for the last 2 years? These special people - or special Gassers, deserve the last say here, no? Now yes, some can say they have already gotten it in being the only posting Gassers in the last 2 years allowed to post (about 30 people). Plus I do understand that at least some of the old time Gassers might like to say goodbye, as a few have written me emails in the last month... yet none asked for a active password to post again, either.
The thing is, and I only noticed this the other day, is that page views here in the last 2 weeks have skyrocketed! I guess the word is out that the ending is near for the Land of Gas, and lurkers are now here in record numbers.... well... as far as the last 15 years go. We are seeing the number of lurkers we saw back 15 to 20 years ago when we had a zillion posts to read everyday. We only today have about a third of the posts we had even 10 years ago - and again, that is because few have active passwords today and therefore less posts are made to read - yes, less posts equal less page views. Just not for this month.
So maybe I should open up the board for say the last week? I guess a part of me wants to do that and another part doesn't want the headache. But at the least, I would like to see our old and lost Gassers post and be able to say goodbye, so to any of you former posters, all you got to do is drop me an email and I'll get you an active password to post with... I was thinking of writing a few of the oldtimers and inviting them to make a few posts in the last month, but I haven't done that to date.
Everybody please understand that there's a part of me that hates the fact that I'm closing down Gasland. It's nice to have a online family like what we have had here for over 20 years. I like the fact that we are the oldest online Stones board and we've been around since before there was a true social media thing even happening. We been around longer than Facebook, or Twitter, or any of those places. Remember when some Stones fans predicted back in the late '90s and then in the early '00s, that this place would fail in about 5 years time? Well they were all 100% wrong. Even in the last 2 years where we have been slowly in the process of closing, the joint had stayed strong with some great posts. To this day that's been the case.
But now we are 2 weeks out from closing. The day is almost here. But until we get there, let's just keep doing what we been doing here since 1998, making great posts and replies to the very last day hits us.
I thank all of you Gassers and lurkers for the support you have shown this place - after all, the success Gasland has had is because of you, not me, I only run the joint, and it won't be any fun without any of you Gassers making posts to read! So let's make the most of what we have left here... and if you are an old Gasser who wants to make one or 2 last posts, please do so, I and the others would love to hear from you!
