I think whenever we collect something just for collecting, and not for any real value, investment, or resale potential, and also when we will never use or really enjoy the thing we collect, then yes, its a kind of hoarding and indeed a sickness. It may not be like what we see on TV, with houses packed high to the ceiling and dead cats revealed upon excavation. But it is still hoarding in some sense.
