Ironically, virtually non of those records ever get played. I could never quite understand the hoarding thing...
That's why I said it's an insane thing! Plus yes, it is hoarding in a way, too! Just where do you draw the line and call it "collecting" vs calling it "hoarding"? Hoarding is looked at as a sickness, while being a collector of items is looked at as being something good and important. The NY Times compared at the 2 in this way: "One misconception about the difference between collecting and hoarding is the idea that collectors save things of value and that hoarders save trash. ... When a collector expands acquisitions beyond well-defined collections and loses the ability to keep these possessions organized, it becomes a hoarding problem."
But the problem with hoarders is that they don't look at what they are collecting, as garbage. But I like how you put his collection down as "crappy beat-up vinyl", in that light it is garbage - and hoarding! But at least this guy does keep all of his records organized, too. Yet you gotta wonder, what happens to all of this after he dies?
