Ironically, virtually non of those records ever get played. I could never quite understand the hoarding thing, aside from keeping a lot of crappy beat-up vinyl out of landfills. No doubt there are gems in and amongst all the junk, although it doesn't make sense that it's stockpiled and never listened to. On a smaller scale I have somewhere around 700 LP's remaining from a once-larger collection. Over the years I have sold quite a few online and trade from time to time with a local record store owner. In a given week I might play 2 or 3 of them. Have recently gotten into 78's. Thrift stores and estate sales practically give them away, and with searching there are some cool jazz, hillbilly, and blues discs that turn up along with the usual unsalable Bing Crosby / Guy Lombardo etc stuff. The fidelity isn't that great but in this instance (to my ears anyway) the sound compliments the music and the era from which it originates.
