Charlie Watts/OOOH vs BB/No talent rockers/more

We kick off the poll post tonight (well this morning I guess) for our 5 weekly polls as usual with the Stones poll, where we enter Week 1008 while running 2 different poll questions. For the first poll, here’s what we are asking: On a scale of zero to 10, rate Charlie Watts as a drummer

This week we look at Charlie Watts as we move along rating each member of the Stones on a scale of zero to 10 on how good they each are at playing the instrument that play most often play. If there was one Stone who stuck to only playing just one instrument in this band, it is Charlie. He has never played anything other than the drums, along with playing a just a bit of percussion on the side for the group (yet unlike other drummers in other bands, he even rarely ever plays percussion, as he prefers to just bang on his main drum kit, while he usually leaves the other percussion work for other band members to handle)… But Charlie always has seemed to be there for the Stones, too. If you skip over the Dirty Work album sessions, where he did miss about half of those sessions because of his heroin addiction problems at the time, you only have a handful of other Stones songs that he didn’t play on for the Stones.

Charlie is also the one Stone who all of the fans seem to love, while also being the one Stone who within the group, has never been dished by his fellow band members.

Now just like when we rated the other Stones in the last few questions before this one, we are not asking this week how great a drummer Charlie has been for the Stones only. We are looking at everybody he has drummed for in the past, and not just his work within the group, even if most of his drumming has been played with his main band, he has drummed for others, too in the past.

So just how high do you rate Charlie as a drummer? To rate his playing in this week’s first Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll and click on Poll 1.

For the second Stones Poll this week we ask: Out Of Our Heads vs Beggars Banquet, which album do you like best?

or vs

"The Crazy and Insane Polls!" returns to the fray this week, featuring one of the 3 Stones 1965 studio album released in that year alone, Out Of Our Heads. This LP was a big fan favorite, although different versions of it were released in the U.S and in the UK, along with different album covers. When comparing this LP this week to Beggars Banquet, as usual, just go with one version of it that you listened to the most and don’t combine the 2 versions together. OOOH in the Stones Album standing is doing very well indeed, in 6th place with a 16-5 record. But the LP it goes up against in this round is doing even better, as 1968’s BB sports a 17-3 record and sits above OOOH in those same standings in 4th place.

Looking back at our first Stones poll last week, we answered this question: On a scale of zero to 10, rate Brian Jones as a musician

Brian Jones last week did better than anybody else has ever done in any of our past polls when being rated in this kind of question. 99% of those who voted gave him an 8 rating or higher, with a ten being the top pick, taking in a whopping 59.4% of the vote! Wow!... To see the full, final results from this poll, click here: Stones Weekly Poll 1 - week 1007. Or, you can also check out the final results at the Stones Fans Top Pick Lists - Page 2, found under the “Individual Stones” section for Brian Jones.

The second Stones poll last week asked this question: Between the Buttons vs Sticky Fingers, which album do you like best?

vs

So do you think that Sticky Fingers is still undefeated after last week’s results? To find out if this is so, just click on the next link that you see to view the final results: Stones Weekly Poll 2- week 1007. Or, you can see the final results and see the updated, current album standings at the Stones VS Page 1.

Now let’s move on to this week’s Classic Rock Poll, where we enter poll week 648, and for this one we also vote on 2 different poll questions in one week. For the first Rock poll we have a new question that asks this: Who was/is the most untalented artist/musician/band in rock music to make it in music (of the ones listed)?

Perhaps this is a very poor question to ask for Thanksgiving week in the U.S., since this is a week when we are supposed to be thankful for things, and most of the artists listed for this poll don't have any real talent for Rock fans to be thankful for. But also remember, this isn't a poll where you are being asked to vote for the artist(s) who you just dislike the most. As it is, there's a few people listed who I myself totally don't care for - who I still wouldn't vote for here since they got more talent than some of the others listed. In fact there's one or 2 on the poll’s answer list who I don't feel should even be listed, but no, this isn't my own list, even if many of those listed comes from my own choices. Also, no, some of these people/bands listed this week weren't listed in last week’s Rock poll, since this question is different than the one we asked this week. Last week we looked at singing only, and both good and bad singing is more of something that you are born with. Whereas with a talent, that you learn from practice along with a hard drive to better yourself at whatever it is you are talented at. Yes, some can learn to sing better with practice and a good singing coach, but if you are born with a bad singing voice, your voice isn't gonna improved to where you can sing well enough no matter who is trying to help you out; so having a good voice isn't really a true talent. But nobody is born knowing how to play instruments, that's something that you have to learn first, and if you have talent, you can in time become good at whatever you learn to play…. Now, for this question, songwriting talent does apply, since it's a talent connected to music.

I almost didn't list the duo Milli Vinilli this week, since while they were a fraud, yes, they could dance very well, and that's a talent, too. But is that enough talent to not be listed? No, I would say. Yet that's not to say you can’t look at that, since it is connected to music entertainment too, but only just in a small bit. Of every single person on this list of acts, all of them can dance, (not counting the bands listed, since bands don't dance while up on stage, other than the lead singer does – sometimes). I did had have Mandona listed at first on this list too, but then I removed her name, since deep down, even if I don't care for her, I feel that she doesn't belong on this list. Just remember, the question isn't asking you if the person has taste, or if you even like them. You can dislike one artist the most of anybody listed, but you may also realize that this person has - if nothing else, more talent than somebody who you actually dislike less who’s also listed, and in that case, your vote should go to for them instead.

There are 9 bands listed this week, and for a band to have no talent among all of its members, is saying a lot. Usually there's at least one person in a band who has some talent. But not in the 9 I got listed, well, maybe at least in 8 of them anyway, since some of these are the opinion of others and not just me. So the band Creed that is listed, well I confess that I know very little about their music but kept seeing them coming up on such lists on other websites in regard to similar questions to what we are voting on here this week, and that’s why they are listed. Then a person like Jon Bon Jovi, IMO, shouldn’t be listed even if I don’t care for him, but, he came up on several different such lists too, so I felt I had to list him. Anyway I still put together 80% of this list, but there's still 4 or 5 artists listed that I know little about.

So anyway, what we are looking for here is more so a person or band that totally lacks any real talent of the 25 that made this week’s list. I believe after looking over this list, that no matter if you agree all listed should be, that most of you will agree that there's 2 listed who totally stand out (but of course, I’m not saying here who they are). Guess I should also note that there's only 5 females listed out of the 25, too, since there just never been a lot female rockers to begin with compare to males, and the ones who made it big, were all talented. Well, most of them were anyway.

One last note, we are talking here about musical talent only! Some of these people listed act too, and one or 2 of them do have acting talent - but – acting talent has nothing to do with our poll. Again, we are looking for musical ability only with this question.

Now just like with last week’s question, I know for this week too, that I didn't list all of the untalented artists out there, especially the most current performers of today - or even from the last 20 years or so (with a few exceptions), since this is mainly a Classic Rock site and poll. But considering just how bad today’s Rock acts are, I could have listed over 100 different artists from the 21st century alone!

To see the list of choices you will have to choose from for this first Rock poll, just click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

For our second Rock poll, we have the Rock VS poll, which asks: Glam vs Country/Southern Rock, which music genre do you like more?

VS

This week Glam takes on a genre that is very much different than it indeed. While Glam is hard rock music, Country/Southern Rock is as mellow as Rock music can get. Now some will argue that Country Rock and Southern Rock are not the same 2 things, and while yes that is true, the 2 are about as close as two rock subgenres can get. What would be the difference in the 2? Going by bands, with southern rock you got (or had) the Allman Brothers Band, the Marshall Tucker Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd as the best examples. With country rock you have (or had) the Pure Prairie League, the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and even the later day Byrds - who were one of the first country rock bands, even if when they started out they were mix of Folk Rock and Psychedelic Rock music. So that's why I'm grouping the 2 together, since they are that close to each other - and they are very much different than Glam Rock, which we been talking enough about here in the last few weeks. About the only 2 things that these 2 subgenres have in common is the long hair that most of the band members have - although other with New Wave, that always been something that all rock subgenres had in common, as even Punk Rockers started off as longhairs (at least in the U.S. anyway).

So which sound do you prefer of the two? To vote in this week’s second Rock poll, just click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

Looking back at last week’s 2 Rock polls, the first question asked: Who was/is the worst Rock singer?

This one saw very close voting for the top 20 choices picked, other than there was a 20 vote gap between the top pick - which I agree with, that being the awful Kanye West, and the second place pick, Yoko Ono . will.i.am came in third to round out the top 3 chosen. To see the full results from this first poll, just click here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 647. To see the Top 10 list from this poll only, go here: Top Ten Lists, Page, 14.

Looking back at last week’s VS Rock poll, the question was: Glam vs Heavy Metal, which music genre do you like more?

VS

This one proved to be a popular question, whereas I was thinking beforehand that maybe it won’t be. The final results were close, and to see which genre was picked, the final results from this poll can be seen by just clicking on here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 647. Or to see how the other genre matchups have gone along with this one, please go here: VS Page 3, List Page, 15. They are all listed on the top part of the page.

We close out this poll post as usual with the Beatles poll, where we enter week 401 and will ask this: Please Please Me vs Beatles For Sale!, which album do you like the best?

vs

Week 3 and the final week of “the Pleasing Polls”, featuring the Beatles first LP, Please Please Me and this is also the very last week of the Beatles Album VS Polls period, as after this round, we have voted on every matchup possible. Now I realize that this long running series still hasn't been running anywhere as long as the Stones Album series had been, since there are nowhere as many Beatle studio albums to match up - almost half less the number the Stones have, and that's why I think it will be more of a big deal when we get to finish up that one (if I recall correctly, that should happen sometime next summer). But still, getting this series done is cool indeed, and after this week’s poll is all finished, we can take a closer look at its overall final results and talk about where all of the albums ended up in the standings.

To see the song list for each album, for Please Please Me, click on: PPM, and for Beatles For Sale!, click here: BFS.

To vote in this poll, please go here: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week's Beatles poll we asked: Please Please Me vs Help!, which album do you like the best?

vs

Well, now 3 weeks in a row has passed to where the final results in this Beatles album poll wasn’t close at all. PPM is just having a hard time in these matches, but perhaps this week things might turn out better for it, since the 2 LPs are close to each other in what they offer. But for last week, that wasn’t the case at all, and PPM took in another big loss. You can click here to view the final result: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 400. Plus the results will also show up on the The Beatles' Albums Page over at the Lennon site.

So that does it for this week’s poll post. Well as I noted above and what everybody at least in the U.S. knows, one of the biggest holidays of the year is this Thursday, that being Thanksgiving. That usually makes for a slower second half of the week both here at Gasland and for these polls, so do remember to vote now and don’t put off your voting, since by late this week you just might forget to vote! I am very thankful that so many of you vote here in our polls each week, and I hope all of you have a great week ahead!
