Noel Redding was another guitarist who suddenly and unexpectedly found himself switching to electric bass. When Jimi Hendrix manager Chas Chandler (a bassist himself) hired him, it was under the condition that he could quickly adapt to the needs of the band that Jimi was forming, and he was able to do so. Redding wasn't as fluid as Jack Bruce or John Entwistle, being a more repetitive riff player, but his style fit in well with The Experience sound. He was great at doubling Jimi's riffs, and created a solid foundation that jazz-influenced drummer Mitch Mitchell played around, adding a bit more finesse in the process.
