Wyman is not without talent, but its very hard to imagine that he could have had a career on his own without the Rolling Stones.
True, but that is also the truth for 98% of all bassists, and not just Bill. Most bassists would have never made it big or would have made it period, without the band that they made it in. There are just a few exceptions to this. Willie Dixon was know as much for being a great stand up bassist as he was of course know for his great song writing, too. Then of course there was the great John Entwistle, and Willie Weeks, Geddy Lee, James Jamerson - and of course Paul McCartney - but then again, if you know and understand who Paul was, he was a true all around musician and guitarist first, who was forced to become a bassist for the good of the band that he was in. But while he is the most famous bassist in the world, the bass guitar actually wasn't his first instrument of choice to play, either.
